    • Cardinals Caravan at Presser Performing Arts Center

    • Bird-watching, a noble winter pasttime in its traditional form, took on a new twist Friday at the Presser Peforming Arts Center, much to the delight of perhaps as many as 1,000 fans of the 2011 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals. Making their second visit to Mexico in as many years, the newest edition of the Cardinals Caravan – headlined by World Series MVP David Freese – couldn’t have been more enthusiastically greeted by folks of all ages, shapes and sizes, many of them decked out in various kinds of Cardinals gear and bringing a wide range of baseball items in hopes of getting them autographed. With proceeds from the event benefitting Mexico and Community R-6 athletics, and no classes in the Mexico Public Schools to boot, fans began filling up the former Presser Hall not long after the doors opened at 10 a.m. The Redbirds’ tour bus arrived in time to keep an 11:30 meet-and-greet with area media at Richardson Hall before making the short walk to the Presser stage door, taking their seats on stage and waiting for the curtain to be raised.
