- With an enthusiastic crowd cheering on both teams, the Mexico High School sports complex proved to be an exciting place to be Friday when the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs wrapped up their regular-season schedules with varsity victories over NCMC rival Fulton. On an evening when MHS senior guard Austin Reed was honored for passing the 1,000-point mark in his career earlier this month and when he joined Tyus Williams, Nick Jones, Kelsey Creed, Klaira Ekern and Danielle Ingrum plus cheerleader Nikki Polston in the spotlight on Senior Night, MHS boys held off a determined Fulton second-half comeback bid to prevail 57-53 after MHS girls had finished off Fulton 53-40 in the day’s first contest. Both Mexico squads now await their semifinal debuts in the Class 4/District 8 tournament played here for the second year in a row. The defending champion Bulldogs are seeded second behind Hannibal and take on Moberly at 9 p.m. Wednesday after the third-seeded Lady Bulldogs face Moberly in a 7:30 tip the same day. Games reports are in the Sports section of this website.
