The Mexico girls tennis team played Helias in Jefferson City on Aug. 25. The final team score was 0-9; however, the girls gave their best in the midst of some great competition. Mexico's Liesl Walser scored 7-10 against Helias' Abby Gober. Mexico's Caroline Finck scored 2-10 against Helias' Damica Shimkus. Mexico's Kaitlyn Brooks scored 2-10 against Helias' Ashley Roling. Mexico's Aaliyah Shivers scored 3-10 against Helias' Becca Shelton. Mexico's Nandita Thapar scored 3-10 against Helias' Abbey Verslues. Mexico's Cassie Early scored 0-10 against Helias' Morgan Dunville. Mexico's Nutcha Pongsuea scored 2-8 against Helias' Cassidy Schrmipf.
The Mexico girls tennis team played in the Osage Tournament at the Lake of the Ozarks on Aug. 27. The team took home second place of four teams, missing first place by only one point to Osage. Mexico's Liesl Walser medaled and won first place singles overall with a three-win sweep. Mexico's Caroline Finck medaled and won second place singles overall. Mexico's Kaitlyn Brooks and Aaliyah Shivers won consolation doubles for the team in a close tiebreaker against Boonville. Mexico's overall point score for the tournament was 13, following Osage whose overall point score was 14. Mexico stuck it out and competed in some very close matches against their three opponents of Boonville, Osage and Richland. They fought hard and proved they were capable of coming out on top of some fierce competition.
The Mexico girls tennis team played Boonville at Boonville on Aug. 29. The final team score was 5-7; however, the girls played some very close matches against the Lady Pirates. Mexico's Liesl Walser scored 10-7 against Boonville's Alicia Campbell. Mexico's Caroline Finck scored 10-1 against Boonville's Allie Cook. Mexico's Kaitlyn Brooks scored 7-10 against Boonville's Amy Shipman. Mexico's Aaliyah Shivers scored 10-9 against Boonville’s Missy Richerson and won in a final tiebreaker of 7-4. Mexico's Nandita Thapar scored 7-10 against Boonville's Amanda Cook. Mexico's Cheryl Orscheln scored 9-11 against Boonville's Holly Krumm. Mexico's doubles teams pulled out some wins as well with Mexico's Walser and Finck scoring 10-5 against Boonville's Campbell and Cook and Mexico's Brooks and Shivers scoring 10-3 against Boonville's Richerson and Cook.
Mexico is home Thursday against Hickman and plays Sept. 6 at Columbia Independent.
