MHS TENNIS: Mexico High School tennis girls opened the season Thursday with a 9-0 loss to Helias at Fairgrounds Park.
No individual match results were reported by press time this morning. Next date for the Lady Bulldogs is Monday at home vs. NCMC rival Boonville.
NC SOFTBALL: Compiling stats almost identical to Game 1 the day before, the Ladybirds scored another 6-1 triumph with no errors, this time Thursday at South Callaway.
Four runs in the fifth proved to be the big inning for 2-0 North Callaway. Danielle Cassidy was the winner, going the distance again, striking out six, walking two, allowing four hits.
Cheyenne Chapin, Maddie Sorell and Kaysey Huddleston each had two hits for NorCal. Chapin drove in two runs and Sorell one, while Huddleston had two doubles and 1 RBI.
The Ladybirds won the JV game 2-1.
CENTRALIA SOFTBALL: A trio of runs in both the third and fifth innings gave the defending state champion Lady Panthers a 7-2 opening triumph Thursday at Salisbury.
Winner Baylee Douglas threw four innings of one-hit ball, striking out six and walking one. Alli Massey had 4 hits/2 RBI, Laci Milner 2 hits/2 RBI and Haley Schmersahl 2 hits.
VAN-FAR SOFTBALL: Results so far this week were South Callaway 8, Van-Far 2 and Paris 6, Van-Far 5.
