Eighth grade football, MHS tennis, MMA soccer
The eighth grade Bulldog football team lost 14-8 at Boonville on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs were down 6-0 at the half and their lone score came in the fourth quarter with a 10-yard run by Miguel Vega. Vega also scored the two point conversion.
"The kids played much better than the last game but we were once again undone by penalties and miscues. Those will definitely be the focus at practice as we prepare for our home opener on Sept. 18 against Warrenton," stated MMS Coach David Okenfuss.
In the "B" game Mexico came out on top 14-8 during a two quarter contest. Scoring rushing touchdowns were Clayton Jeffrey and Sean Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald also scored a two point conversion.
Mexico High School Lady Bulldogs tennis team lost Tuesday 9-0 to Palmyra. "Palmyra was a tough team to play. The girls did their best and we had a couple wins on JV. The girls are having fun playing which is the most important part," stated MHS Coach Ashley Bonine.
MHS 0-6, play at 4 p.m. Thursday at Moberly.
MMA Soccer report
Missouri Military Academy soccer team opened its season on the road Tuesday with a 9-1 win over Elsberry.
Five Colonels scored goals with Jesus Gonzalez scoring five of the nine. Also, adding goals for the Colonels were David Gu, Francisco DeLlano, Jose Estrada and Patricio Herrer with one each. Gu also had 5 assists and Victor Marroquin had 1 assist.
Jose "Greg" Reding in goal for the Colonels allowed 1 goal with 10 saves.
Next action for MMA (1-0) will be Thursday at the Moberly Tournament.
