The Mexico Bulldogs soccer team defeated the Missouri Military Academy Colonels by the score of 2-0 Monday night with all the scoring coming in the first half of the match.
Colin Cosby gave the Bulldogs the lead in the 13th minute of the first half. Five minutes later Cristian Vega scored from a pass by Brock Fuemmeler.
"We've been having a problem keeping our intensity in the second half of games and MMA put a lot of pressure on us, but we were able to preserve the victory," said MHS Coach Chris Hotop.
Tyler Warmbrodt made five saves in goal and earned his first shutout of the season.
"Our defense did an outstanding job in limiting the shots on goal," said Hotop.
Cristian Vega led the effort with Jose Hernandez, Sam Hobbs, Mathias Whitworth and Sergy Comerzan. The Bulldogs performed better in the middle of the field with Elijah Robinson, Christian McKeown and Vega controling the ball.
"Gib Graham and Sean Kelly did a great job getting up and down the field from the outside mid position. The win was a complete team effort," stated the MHS coach.
The Bulldogs, 5-4, play again tonight at Hannibal.
The JV team won 2-1 with goals by Beau Talley and Aron Manns.
