  • The Lady Bulldogs softball team added another game in the win column when they beat the Hannibal Lady Pirates 6-2 at home Tuesday night.
    "We got off to a slow start offensively but didn't give up at the plate. We were able to make adjustments and get the job done," said MHS Coach Christian Gerber.
    After keeping the Lady Pirates scoreless in the first inning, the Lady Bulldogs scored one run in the bottom of the first when Danielle Baumgartner hit a 2-out single. Teammate, Anne Baker then hit a double to score Baumgartner from first.
    Hannibal answered back in the third inning with two runs, but were shut down after that by Mexico's pitching and defense.
    Mexico was scoreless in the second and third innings before they scored three runs in the fourth. The inning began with Alison Mudd reaching on an error and then stealing second. Karen Baker hit a single to advance Mudd to third, then Brooke Costley bunted to score Mudd and Baumgartner drew a walk. Anne Baker hit a fly ball that was caught by the shortstop but allowed Karen Baker to score. The inning ended with Abby Dick hitting a single to score Baumgartner.
    Getting singles in the fifth inning were Paityn House and Mudd, but both were left on base.
    Mexico scored two more runs after Baumgartner started the sixth inning hitting a one-out double. Anne Baker reached on an error and Baumgartner scored on the play. Anne Baker then stole second and Haley Test reached on an error. Lauren Ralls, coming in off the bench, hit a single to score Anne Baker for the final run of the game.
    Baumgartner (7-1) pitched for the Lady Bulldogs. She recorded 10 strikeouts, 2 walks, hit one batter and allowed 4 hits.
    The Lady Bulldogs, 8-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play, are at home again Thursday against Moberly in a NCMC game that was changed from Moberly to Mexico.
    Monday's rained out game has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 26 at Kirksville.
    The junior varsity also prevailed with a 10-1 victory.
    In the first inning the Lady Bulldogs scored 2 runs on singles from Leslie Fischer, Laura Fischer, and a single and RBI from Tori Shaw.
    In the second inning, 3 runs were scored. Laura Fischer hit a single in the second inning.
    The Lady Bulldogs scored 3 runs in the third inning. Ashlee Morton hit a single.
    Two runs were scored in the fourth inning. Ashlie Woodruff hit a double and Sydney Schutte hit a single with an RBI.
    Hannibal's only run came in the first inning.
    Morgan Hall pitched for the Lady Bulldogs.
    The JV record is 7-1-1.
