North Callaway softball, Paris football
SOFTBALL: The New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats upset the North Callaway Ladybirds 5-3 Monday.
New Bloomfield scored 3 runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Ladybirds answered back by tying the game in the bottom of the fourth, but that would be the only runs for North Callaway. New Bloomfield finished their scoring with 1 run in the fifth and 1 in the sixth.
North Callaway had 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 errors. New Bloomfield had 5 hits with 4 doubles.
Jaida Gray (4-1) was the losing pitcher, pitching 5 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 unearned), 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 7. Danielle Cassidy took the mound for 2 innings, allowing 1 unearned run.
Offensively for North Callaway, the Ladybirds batters did not have multiple hits. Gray and Brynn McGrath were 1-4 with 1 RBI each. Cheyenne Capin was 1-2, hit by a pitch and scored a run.
North Callaway (13-5) will play their last conference game (weather permitting) at Clopton tonight.
The junior varsity Ladybirds beat New Bloomfield 13-7. There record is now 9-1.
FOOTBALL: Paris Coyotes were kept scoreless Friday night when they were defeated by Westran 61-0.
"We played hard, but we were overpowered by a superior team in every aspect of the game. We have to put this game behind us and work hard to prepare for Fayette this week," said Paris Coach Gary Crusha.
The Coyotes are 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league play.
