"The Young Buffalo Wild West and Colonel Cummins Indian Congress and Far East arrived in town bright and early Tuesday morning in its own special train and pitched its tents on the Boulevard. There was the usual crowd of youngsters and old folks on hand to witness the arrival and watch the putting up of the canvass and view with interest the usual sights and scenes incident to getting such a show into shape for the day's performance."

"Ted Beckett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Beckett, 1421 S. Calhoun St., is a semifinalist in the National Scholarship competition for this year, it was announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corp., of Evanston, Ill. Ted, who became 17 on Sept. 10, is a senior at Mexico High School. Ted is one of 11,000 semi-finalists in the qualifying test, the first step toward winning a four-year merit scholarship to the college of his choice."

"With only one victory between them for six games, neither team figured to have much of an edge in the 95th meeting of the Mexico Bulldogs and Fulton Hornets, two North Central Missouri Conference rivals who have to be hoping better days are ahead of them and soon. True, the Bulldogs were coming off the only win, but the Hornets were playing at home. And at halftime of Friday night's contest, the oddsmakers could be sure of only one thing, whoever scored first probably would have a big, big edge. It took 34 minutes and 22 seconds of sometimes hard-hitting, often mistake-filled football before the honor went to the Hornets, who took advantage of Mexico's depleted corps of running backs to literally grind out a 6-0 decision for their initial triumph.

Audrain Habitat for Humanity has selected Turkessa Nunnelly and family to partner with the organization in building an eighth Habitat Home in Mexico. Daniel Nunnelly and Rita Jackson will be sponsors of the family, which includes Demilo Nunnelly and D'von Nunnelly-Lue. Members of the Audrain Habitat board will be introduced to the new family partners at the board's regular meeting on Oct. 7.
