  • John Thomas (JT) Brooks, 70, of Mexico, Mo., died on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at his home with his family present in Mexico.
    A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Mexico, beginning with a Masonic Service followed by a memorial service officiated by Reverend Jerry Ostrom. Visitation will immediately follow the service at the family's home.
    JT was born Sept. 20, 1942 in Mexico, to John W. Brooks and Anna (Batty) Brooks. JT grew up in Mexico, and graduated from Mexico High School in 1960. JT worked as a machinist at A.P. Green Refractories and retired after 40 years. JT married Sue Ellen Hopper on February 12, 1982.
    JT was a member of Hebron Lodge #354, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, a member of the Moolah Shrine Temple, and Little Dixie Shrine Club. He was also a member of Centennial Baptist Church. JT enjoyed all things outdoors, such as fishing, hunting, and spending time on his farm.
    JT is survived by his wife Sue Ellen of Mexico, Mo.; son Mark of Auxvasse; son Matt and wife Kelly of Foristell; daughter Jennie of Los Angeles, Ca.; granddaughter LeeAnne of Foristell.; sister Rose and husband Duane Mather of Janesville, Ia.; sister Debra Neate of Mexico; nephew Jeff Mather of Janesville, Ia.; niece Suzanne Maples of Waverly, Ia.; niece Brooke Shepard of Columbia; and Sidney Neate-Scott of Columbia.
    JT was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dennis Brooks.
    Honorary Pallbearers are Chuck Spires, Tony Hamilton, John Parrot, Buckner Neate, Duane Mather, Jeff Mather, Bill Grooms, Dustin Patton, and Cody Whalen.
    Per JT's request memorial contributions are suggested to a scholarship fund for his daughter. Contributions can be made at First National Bank of Audrain County in Mexico to the Brooks' Scholarship Fund.
