This week, the 4-1 Brookfield Bulldogs head back to historic Burlington Field for a Clarence Cannon Conference showdown with the South Shelby Cardinals. The Dogs are coming home off of a road thrashing by Centralia last week. Things do not get any easier in the CCC, as the Dogs Homecoming opponents are the defending Class 1 State Runner-up's.
“Kids are resilient, far more so than their coaches,” said Head Coach Nile Thudium. “They're looking forward to the challenge that they face this week.”
South Shelby is 3-2 on the season, with losses to Centralia and Palmyra. Offensively, the Cardinals will look to use the game plan they have for years. “They will run out of the I Formation for the most part,” said Coach Thudium. “We can expect them to play a lot of power football.”
Defensively, South Shelby will use a four front defense. “We fully expect them to load the line of scrimmage against our tight formations,” said Coach Thudium. “They will dare us to throw the football, regardless of how we align.”
After some line issues last week, Coach Thudium is looking for these players Blue Pride to bring them back up to par this week. “Our offensive and defensive lines struggled at times this past week,” said Coach Thudium. “They must both step up this week.”
In closing Coach Thudium hopes to see the Bulldog Nation carry the young team to a big CCC win this Friday night. “We really need a huge crowd at Burlington Field this Friday to cheer our kids on,” said Coach Thudium. “An electric atmosphere would definitely help our kids overcome last week's loss.”
