  • EMO conference tournament, Class 3 District 7 tournament, Centralia softball

  • EMO CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT: Montgomery County will host the EMO Conference softball tournament Saturday.
    Teams playing include: Bowling Green, Clopton, Van-Far, Elsberry, Montgomery County, Silex, Wright City, Community R-6 and North Callaway.
    CLASS 3 DISTRICT 7: The Class 3, District 7 tournament will be held next week, Monday through Saturday, at Wright City. Winfield (17-5) is seeded first followed by Warrenton (13-5) second, North Callaway (14-5) third, Bowling Green (9-10) fourth, Fulton (8-13) fifth, and Wright City (2-15) sixth. North Callaway will play Wright City at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
    SOFTBALL: Centralia Lady Panthers had trouble Thursday night hitting the ball in the gap causing them a 5-1 loss to Palmyra Lady Panthers.
    "We made too many mental mistakes. We couldn't seem to hit the ball in the gap. We just hit it right at them," said CHS coach Jill Angell.
    Centralia had five hits and six errors in the game with their only run coming in the sixth inning. Palmyra had runs in the second, fourth, sixth and seventh innings on six hits.
    Haley Schmersahl pitched all seven innings for Centralia, allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and struck out 5. For Palmyra Madison Rager pitched seven innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and struck out 3.
    Offensively for Centralia, Kaitlyn VanMaanen was 1-1 with a double. K. Hinkle was 2-2 with a single and double for Palmyra.
    Centralia is 17-4 overall and 8-1 in league play.
    Centralia seventh and eighth grade softball teams were in action Sept. 20, 24 and 25.
    The Sept. 20 games were at Macon with the Centralia seventh-graders winning 17-3. Centralia had 17 runs on 17 hits. Emily Green pitched three innings for Centralia and Olivia Eikel pitched one. Kaitlyn Rakers, Emily Greene, Olivia Eikel, Kellyn Vega, Sade Owens, Halia Harges, all hit singles. Jaymi Freeman and Mykaela Gallegos hit doubles.
    In the eighth grade game Centralia won 16-0. Centralia had 9 hits with a triple from Madison Preston, doubles from Kaili Hinds, Madison Preston, and Shayla Ralphs, and singles from Nicole Duncan, Lexie Forrest and Shelby Salisbury. Madison Preston pitched all three innings.
    On Sept. 24, the teams were at home against South Callaway. Centralia seventh grade team won 11-2. Centralia had 11 runs on 11 hits. Olivia Eikel hit a double; Kaitlyn Rakers, Emily Greene, Olivia Eikel, Jaymi Freeman, Mykaela Gallegos, Courtney Luedloff and Brittney Dubes hit singles.
    In the eighth grade game, Centralia won 10-0 in four innings. Centralia batters had 11 hits with Maddie Taylor hitting a triple and a single. Nicole Duncan, Kaili Hinds, Madison Preston, Shelby Salisbury, Kaitlyn Utterback and Shayla Ralphs all hit singles.
    On Sept. 25 the teams were home again, this time against North Callaway. In the seventh grade game Centralia won 9-2. Centralia had 10 hits and North Callaway had 8 hits. For Centralia Olivia Eikel hit a home run and a single. Jaymi Freeman and Kellyn Vega hit doubles, while Kaitlyn Rakers hit a single. The seventh grade team finished the season 7-0.
    Page 2 of 2 - In the eighth grade game Centralia won 17-0 in four innings. Madison Preston was the winning pitcher, pitching all four innings.
    Centralia had 19 hits in the game with multiple home runs. Shayla Ralphs hit two in-the-park home runs along with Nicole Duncan who had one in-the-park home run. Kaili Hinds and Nicole Duncan each hit an out-of-the park home run. Hitting triples for Centralia were Madison Preston, Shelby Salisbury and Nicole Duncan. Nicole Duncan and Kaitlyn Utterback also hit doubles. Hitting singles for Centralia were Taiya Horn, Shayla Ralphs and Madison Preston.
    The Centralia eighth grade team ended its regular season 7-0. They will travel to Hannibal Saturday for the conference tournament.
