Mexico 49, Warrenton 29
The Mexico High School Bulldogs beat the Warrenton Warriors Friday night 49 to 29, making their season record 0-2 conference and 1-5 overall.
Mexico kept the lead throughout the entire game with the Bulldogs leaving the Warriors in the wind with a 20-point lead.
"I am very proud of how our team responded after a tough game last week," said MHS coach Ty Harrison. Offensively we were balanced and effective in both the run and pass game with 323 yards rushing and 166 yards passing. Defensively we had a key stop before the half that was huge. Our tackling is still an issue on coverage and defense," said coach Harrison.
Highlights in the first quarter of the game included Jamel Taylor who had a 23-yard touchdown run and Matt Ridgway threw a 26 yard touchdown pass to Kamden Ekern. Second quarter, Ridgway executed a 4 yard touchdown run. Third quarter, Austyn Sampo had a 30 yard interception for a touchdown, Ridgway threw a 15 yard touchdown pass to Tyler Bracht; and Jamel Taylor had a 22- and an 11-yard touchdown run.
Sampo had two interceptions, 1 30-yard interception return for a touchdown. Taylor had 20 carries for 240 yards and three touchdowns; Ridgway was 11 for 20-passing 166 yards, two passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown. Bracht had seven catches and 83 yards and one touchdown; Ekern had a 22 yard touchdown catch and one interception. "The entire offensive line should be commended for their effort in blocking to allow us all those yards," said coach Harrison Keenan Campbell had 10 tackles.
"This was a district win for us," coach said. Bulldogs injuries include only typical mid-season bumps and bruises. The next Bulldog game is the MHS Homecoming game on Friday against Kirksville.
