    "The belt on the large engine and dynamo at the Electric Light Power House broke Wednesday afternoon and it will take a day or two to repair it. E.R. Locke, of the Company, requests that the consumers use as sparingly as possible which will aid the Light Company in giving satisfaction to all. Mr. Locke said it may be possible that the street lights will have to be cut out tonight as the small engine may not be capable of pulling so heavy a load."

    "The 15th annual Dad's Weekend at Missouri Military Academy is expected to attract nearly 1,000 parents and friends here beginning Friday. Parents of most of the Academy's 300 cadets, representing 27 states and five foreign countries will be present for the traditional fall program, which will include three football games, two parades, conference periods, competitive drills, an alfresco luncheon, a formal dance, and Sunday vespers."

    "Actor William Shatner of "Star Trek" fame, was in town Thursday looking at saddle horses at Simmons Stables. Mr. Shatner, who is considering purchasing a saddle horse from the stable, has been in St. Louis this week attending the St. Louis National Horse Show."

    "A week after the Sunset Festival took 'a step back in time,' area residents will get a taste of our more recent past with Thursday's car show. Older classic vehicles will be on display at the Mexico Village Square on Thursday evening along with many new cars for the fourth week of the Sunset Festival. Food and activities for kids including the Bounce House and train rides will also be available."
