  • SOFTBALL: Centralia Middle School softball took the CCC Tournament held in Hannibal by storm, walking away the champions. They beat Brookfield Saturday in the first game of the tournament, with a 22 to 4 score. Centralia scored in all of the innings, except the third. They had 22 runs and 18 hits. Brookfield had 4 runs and 5 hits. Madison Preston pitched for Centralia four innings.
    Highlights of the game include: Shayla Ralphs, Lexie Forrest, Madison Preston, Kaili Hinds, Shelby Salisbury, Kaitlyn Utterback, McKenzi Redington, Taiya Horn and Madeline Bostick hit singles. Preston and Salisbury got doubles. Nicole Duncan and Maddie Taylor got triples. Taylor hit a home run.
    Centralia Middle School softball played South Shelby in the second game of the tournament, winning 17 to 0.
    In that game, Centralia came out strong again, scoring every inning, with 17 runs and 9 hits. Kaili Hinds pitched 3 innings and Madison Preston pitched 1. Shayla Ralphs, Kaitlyn Utterback, Shelby Salisbury and Nicole Duncan all got doubles. Ralphs, Preston, Utterback and Taiya Horn got singles.
    In the championship game of the tournament, Centralia beat Clark County 8 to 0. Kaili Hinds pitched 6 innings. Centralia conference record is 3-0, and their overall record is 10-0.
    Highlights of the championship game included: Shayla Ralphs, Maddie Taylor, Madison Preston, Kaili Hinds, Nicole Duncan and Shelby Salisbury all got singles. Preston got a double. Hinds, Duncan and Kaitlyn Utterbach all got triples.
    The eighth grade Lady Panthers team won the CCC Tournament for the third year in a row.
    Community R-6 fell short of beating the Louisiana Bulldogs Friday night in Louisiana. The final score was 0-8, in the Bulldogs' favor.
    The Lady Thunderbirds were able to keep the Bulldogs from scoring until the third inning. From there, Louisiana took the game, scoring their first run in the third inning, three runs in the fifth, and four more runs in the sixth inning.
    "The girls fought hard defending the plate and fielding clean. It was a great effort on their part. We just fell short in the final innings," said Community R-6 Coach Erin Mack. The Thunderbird's season ended with a 1-6 record.
    North Callaway pitcher Danie Jackson pitched seven innings, allowing 20 hits, 8 runs, 7 walks and striking out 5. The leading hitters for Thunderbirds were Jackson, who had three hits and Alissa Curtis, who also had three hits.
    The Lady Thunderbirds played the Clopton Hawks at home on Saturday and lost 0-15, ending their season with a 1-7 record.
    Danie Jackson pitched three innings, recorded nine hits, 15 runs, 10 walks and 1 strikeout. Alissa Curtis pitched one inning, with 1 hit and two strikeouts.
    FOOTBALL: The Centralia Panthers played the Monroe City Panthers Friday. Zach Etzler had a perfect night 14 out of 14 for 300 yards (three passing touchdowns and two running TDs) with a 39 to 14 win over Monroe City. Centralia's overall record is 6-0.
    Page 2 of 2 - The offense had 300 passing yards gained, 193 rushing yards gained; and 493 total yards gained. The defense had 90 passing yards allowed; 146 rushing yards allowed, and 236 total yards allowed. Following are the team stats:

    • Blair Thall: 3 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles, 8 total tackles, 1(-3) sacks, 1 fumble recovery.
    • Jacon Hockman: 3 solo tackles, 9 assisted tackles, 12 total tackles, and 1(-5) sacks.
    • Dixon Dollens: four solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles, 9 total tackles.
    • Khaldoon Saleh: 2 Solo tackles, 9 assisted tackles, 11 total tackles.
    • Tyler Spurling: 2 solo tackles, 9 assisted tackles, 11 total tackles.
    • Chandler Kovar: 3 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles, 8 total tackles.
    • Ben Graves: 3 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles, 6 total tackles.
    The Paris Coyotes beat the Fayette Tigers Friday, 33 to 16.
    "This was the best game we have played all year. We played hard for four quarters, and our line was able to open up holes allowing Steven Hayhurst and Slater Stone to get into the open. We made adjustments at half that really paid off for us on defense," said Paris Coach Gary Crusha. "I'm really proud of how our guys bounced back this week. We have to work hard this week to take on a much improved Slater team."
    Paris scored 7 in the 1st quarter, 6 in the second quarter, 7 in the third and 13 in the fourth.
    Fayette scored their 16 points in the second quarter.
