Obituary published Oct. 3, 2012 in The Mexico Ledger

Eloise Findley Stuart, a 93-year-old resident of Monroe City, MO and longtime resident of Mexico, MO, died at Monroe City Manor Care on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012.
The body was cremated and there will be a joint memorial for Vernon who passed away at age 84 on Feb. 26, 2003. The memorial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012. West Liberty/Section D Corner of Elmwood and Liberty St. in Mexico, Mo. All are welcome to attend the memorial.
Mrs. Stuart was born on Oct. 15, 1918 in Trenton, the daughter of James Joseph and Julia Edna Ingalls Findley of Trenton. She married Vernon T. Stuart of Mexico in 1941 when he was working with the CCC during construction of Crowder Park.
Mrs. Stuart graduated from Trenton High School with the class of 1936. She began working at A.P. Green in 1944, until an accident in which she lost all the fingers, except for the thumb on the right hand and two middle fingers on the left. She graduated as a licensed practical nurse from Audrain Licensed Practical Nursing School in 1958 and Medicine Admin School in 1959. Between the years of 1959 and 1990, Mrs. Stuart worked as a LPN at Audrain Hospital, Fulton State Hospital, Coldwell Nursing and Columbia University Hospital. She also served as a private duty nurse. Prior to 1958 she was a homemaker and was self-taught in crafts, including crochet of doilies and macrame. She also did home repair and enjoyed reading.
She is survived by two sons, James Vernon of Monroe City and Ira Thomas Stuart of Spotsylvania County, VA; one nephew, J.D. (Karen) Howe of Meadville; six paternal grandchildren, Irisha Stuart Ortwein of Allentown, PA, Tina Stuart Harding and James Joseph Stuart of Fulton, Vernon Thomas Stuart II of Crystal Lake, IL, Ira Thomas Stuart Jr. of Spotsylvania County, VA, and Lori Ann Stuart of Vandalia; step grandchildren, Tracey Littrell of Columbia, MO and Gina (Dean) Littrell Schambach of Vandalia and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents; and one sister, Eleanor Howe.
