North Callaway and Centralia softball
SOFTBALL: North Callaway Ladybirds played Wright City Lady Panthers in Districts at Wright City Wednesday night. North Callaway won 5-3.
Wright City scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning and North Callaway scored one in the fourth and four in the fifth. The winning pitcher was Danielle Cassidy. She is now 12-4.
Cassidy went all seven innings allowing Wright City's three runs. None were earned. She had two hits, two walks, 10 strikeouts and a no hitter for the first five innings.
North Callaway offensively had five hits. The game-winning hit was by Kale Summer in the fourth inning. Summer had an RBI single and was 1 for 2, plus a walk, one run scored and two stolen bases. The big hit in the fifth inning was by catcher Kelsey Coil. She had a two-run single in that inning, and was 1 for 2, with 2 RBIs and a walk.
North Callaway's record is 19-5. Wright City falls to 3-19. North Callaway Coach Sara Baumgartner said: "It was a good game to get rid of our district jitters. We want to get back to playing Ladybird softball. Back up to our capabilities."
North Callaway played Warrenton Thursday at 6 p.m. in the semi-finals in Wright City.
Chester Boren Middle School girls eighth grade girls softball team beat Moberly Tuesday, with the final score of 16 to 1. Centralia's conference record is now 3-0 and its overall record is 11-0.
The Panthers scored 10 runs in the first inning and 3 each in the second and third. They had 16 runs and 12 hits. Moberly didn't score until the third inning, with one run and one hit.
Kali Hinds, Madison Preston and Lexie Forrest pitched one inning each.
Shayla Ralphs, Madison Preston, Kaitlyn Utterback, Madeline Bostick, Sam Huff and Taiya Horn hit singles. Preston and Hinds each hit a double. Shelby Salisbury got a triple.
