MARSHALL, Mo. - Kirksville senior tennis player Kinsey Helton earned a repeat trip to the Class 1 State Individual Tennis Championships at Springfield, Mo. next Friday by cruising past Jennifer Fabian of Barat Academy (6-0, 6-0) in a Sectional match Tuesday.

Helton (21-5) felt she was in control of her match from the beginning.

"I felt I got off to a good start," she said. "Then my opponent met with her coach and they changed strategy.

"She was content to hit with me and after she talked with her coach, she stayed back and seemed content to try to hit it down the baseline. We got to duece a couple of times, but I survived."

Helton finished 2-2 last year at State, one win away from medaling, and would like to improve that this time around.

"I think there will be more pressure," she said. "I want to do better and I feel we should better."
