"Conductor D. Edwards handled the Springfield Fair special from Jefferson City to Mexico Wednesday morning and assisted Conductor Short on the main line special from Mexico to Springfield. When leaving Mexico the train had sixteen coaches and more than 100 passengers."

"L.J. (Jake) Miller Jr., Grand Parade Marshal for Mexico's 11th annual Soybean & Livestock Festival; issued a blanket invitation today to all non-profit organizations in the area and neighboring cities to participate in the parade. They will be eligible for the $300 in prizes to be offered for the eight best decorated and most imaginative floats.

"Chris Fennewald, former staff writer for The Ledger, has assumed the responsibilities of news editor of the Community Press and the Mid-America Farmer at Perryville. He was previously farm editor for the Worthington (Minn.) Daily Globe and had served as staff editor for Hog Farm Management magazines based in Minneapolis. Fennewald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Fennewald of Laddonia is a 1980 graduate of Community R-6 High School."

"Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Bill Fenlon, recently departed on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the guided missile Frigate USS Kauffman, home ported in Norfolk, Va. Fenlon, son of Helen B. and Robert M. Fenlon, Mexico, was one of more than 10,000 Atlantic fleet sailors and marines aboard the ships of the USS George Washington carrier Battle Group and USS Nassan Amphibious Ready Group ready to participate in Operation Enduring Freedom. Fenlon is a 1993 graduate of Mexico High School and joined the Navy in September 1996."
