The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team held the annual Rally Pink Tuesday night to raise money for the Relay For Life event. Both teams, Mexico and Boonville, wore pink shirts to show their support for Breast Cancer awareness. A total of $1,034 was raised. The event was a success due to those who bought T-shirts and area businesses that donated to the cause.
The outcome of the match was not in favor of the Lady Bulldogs. In the first game there were a couple of long volleys but Boonville prevailed in the end. With the score tied 12-12 the Lady Bulldogs took the lead. The Lady Pirates tied it at 13-13, then took the lead and held it for the remainder of the game. The final score in the first game was 25-17.
MHS coach Rachel Leu stated that it was a fun match. "We did a lot of good things and had one or two plays gone our way, we would have possibly won," said Leu. The team has been working on improving certain aspects of the game, specifically with blocking and defense. "I felt we made great strides in doing that last night. Every hitter contributes with kills and we passed 92 percent for the night." added Leu.
In the second game the Lady Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first, but the Lady Pirates rallied early to take the lead. The final score was 25-15.
Mexico with an overall record of 3-19 travels to Fulton Thursday night.
The junior varsity lost 25-10 and 25-16.
