  • Mexico High School football coach Ty Harrison and his Bulldogs will play their last home game of the regular season Friday against the Moberly Spartans, a team with a solid line and big skills which has lead to a successful season for the Spartans.
After watching the film Saturday on Friday night's game against Fulton, the Mexico coach saw much improvement on moving the ball on offense. "We had more yards on offense than we have had in any game this year. We just had too many drives stall out," he said. The defense on the other hand gave up too many plays. "We gave up big plays that resulted in their scores," said the MHS coach.
During practice this week, the Bulldogs have been working on staying on blocks on offense, and covering multiple run and pass plays on the defense.
Harrison knows his Bulldogs have their work cutout for them to triumph over the Spartans who are 6-2 overall for the season. They must overcome Moberly's big line that blocks well and gets off blocks well. The Bulldogs will have to finish the drives on offense and make Moberly's offense earn their points by not giving up big plays. Moberly has a good passing team so the Bulldogs will need to come up big when the Spartans go to the air.
"They throw the ball quite a bit so we need to defend the pass well. We also need to come off blocks on defense," said the MHS coach. On the offense, the Bulldogs need to sustain some drives and finish them with points.
Mexico is also dealing with injuries. Junior running back and line backer Jamel Taylor is questionable; junior Michael Newman is out as linebacker; and junior John Lummis is questionable.
Friday night is senior night and the seniors will be honored prior to the 7 p.m. game time.
