  • Paris football, Community R-6 junior high girls basketball

  • FOOTBALL: The Paris Coyotes football team lost 49-14 Friday against the Marceline Tigers. For the offense Coyotes quarterback Steven Hayhurst was 13-24 in passing for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the receiving end were Zane Vaughn, Laine Forrest, Justin Wolfe and Slater Stone. Stone also led the rushers with 16 yards, Hayhurst had 8 carries for 15 yards and Justin Wolfe added 7 yards. On defense Chance Whelan had 2 tackles, Hayhurst 4, Forrest 7, Wolfe 22 (three for a loss), Trae Hammond 7, Austin Wilkerson 1, Stone, 5, Briar Hancock, 2, Lawrence Parrott 9, Zac Baladenski 17, Dylan Langerud 6, John DeOrnellis 4 (one for a loss), Kole Berrey 18, (two for a loss), and Shane Umstattd had 4. Wolfe, Parrott and Langerud each had one sack.
    The Coyotes will host Salisbury Friday night.
    BASKETBALL: In its first game, Community R-6 junior high basketball girls lost to New Bloomfield 43-26 on Tuesday. Top scorers for R-6 were Danie Jackson with 12 hitting two 3s and Alissa Curtis with 10. "This was our first game and the girls played very well against a more experienced and bigger team," stated R-6 coach Holly Gemes. The R-6 team was 60 percent from the free throw line.
    The next game is against Marion Co. in the Madison Tournament Thursday.
