The Mexico High School Bulldog soccer team got back in the win column Thursday night with a 6-1 triumph over the Boonville Pirates in Boonville.
Bulldog Christian McKeown go scored the first goal for Mexico in the ninth minute from a long pass by Cristian Vega.
McKeown scored again in the 19th minute on a penalty kick. "We then got an own goal for a 3-0 lead at the half," stated MHS coach Chris Hotop.
Scoring in the second half were Aron Manns, Josh Kelly and Sean Kelly with Sean Kelly also getting an assist. It was a cold, windy and rainy evening of soccer making things difficult. But Colin Cosby, Rory McKeown and Christian McKeown controlled the middle of the field and did a good job distributing the ball. Sean Kelly put pressure on their defense with great runs down the right side of the field. "And our back line of Mathias Whitworth, Sam Hobbs, Cristian Vega and Jose Hernandez worked hard defensively," said Hotop. Tyler Warmbrodt was the winning goal keeper.
The Bulldogs finish the regular season with two home games next week. Tuesday they are hosts to Fulton. Thursday is senior night when the Bulldogs play Moberly.
