Mexico soccer, Mexico volleyball, North Callaway junior varsity football
SOCCER: The Bulldog soccer team lost to Fulton Tuesday 4-0.
The Bulldogs gave up gave up two goals in the first 13 minutes of the game for the halftime score of 2-0. " We continue to struggle to put together a consistent attack on goal," stated MHS coach Chris Hotop.
The junior varsity team won 1-0. Juan Ramirez scored the winning goal. Frank Nickoley and Gabe Marley shared the shutout in goal.
Mexico will be at home again Thursday against Moberly for senior night against and the final regular match of the season. The junior varsity will start at 5 p.m. with two 20 minute halves with varsity to follow. The seniors will be honored between games.
VOLLEYBALL: The Mexico volleyball Lady Bulldogs ended the season Monday in district play at Fulton. The Lady Bulldogs played the host team with the Lady Hornets advancing in the tournament with 25-15 and 25-15 victory.
"I was proud of how well the girls played," stated MHS coach Rachel Leu. After losing to Fulton last Thursday night, it would have been easy for the girls to give up and let them get an easy win," said the MHS coach. She said the team came in with a game plan and she felt they executed and played a much more competitive game, forcing Fulton to earn every point.
"Overall, I was pleased with how the season went. I felt we learned a lot and look forward to next year," said Leu.
NORTH CALLAWAY: The North Callaway junior varsity football team finished its season Monday night with a 7-0 record against a good South Callaway team that has a 6-2 record. The final score was 28-14. Cole Branson was 4-10 for 78 yards and threw for one touchdown and ran for one TD. Paul Zerr caught two passes and scored one TD. Manzell Payne was the leading rusher with 17 caries for 92 yards and 1 TD.
