The North Central Missouri Conference has released its all-conference boys soccer and football teams.
Mexico Bulldogs making all-conference in soccer include: junior Christian McKeown, first team midfield for the third year; and senior Cristian Vega, second team defender.
In football: sophomore Tyler Bracht was named to the first team wide receiver on offense and at-large player second team on the defense.
FOOTBALL: It was a perfect cool, crisp Halloween night Wednesday with the clouds passing over a nearly full moon. It was also a happy Halloween for the Centralia football Panthers who were triumphant 20-17 over the Boonville Pirates in the second round of District competition. In the first quarter it was all about the defense as each team was kept scoreless. The Panthers got on the board first with a touchdown at 5:05 in the second quarter. With 2.5 seconds left in the half, the Pirate's Jacon Francise kicked a 22-yard field goal making the halftime score 17-3.
The Pirates came out in the third and scored at 6:34 on a 27-yard pass to Damario Walker from Jared Oser putting the Pirates up 10-7. The Panthers answered back three minutes later with a 24-yard run by quarterback Zach Etzler retaking the lead 14-10. The defensive took over again for both teams and then in the fourth at 9:30 Boonville again took the lead on a three-yard run by Jared Oser. It wasn't until approximately 4 minutes left in the game, that the Panthers scored on a two-yard run by Etzler, making the final score 20-17.
Etzler had a total of 134 rushing yards with 3 TDs. Austin Kinkead rushed for 86, while Cullen Ralphs ran for 46. Gannon Peavler led the Panthers with two receptions for 23 yards, followed by Chandler Blackwell with 1 reception for 11 yards, and Denver Horn, 1 reception for 22 yards.
Austin Kinkead led the defense with 17 tackles, followed by Jason Anders with 13 tackles and Jess Arnold with 11 tackles and one interception.
No. 2 seed Centralia will play No. 1 California at 7 p.m. Monday in California for the district championship.
The North Callaway Thunderbirds' eight-game winning streak came to an end as did their season Wednesday night when they lost to the South Callaway Bulldogs 28-12 in district competition.
The Thunderbirds scored their only touchdown in the first half with their best drive of the season. They began at their own 40-yard line and after 18 plays, seven first downs and 9 minutes and 3 seconds off the clock they scored a TD on a six-yard pass by Jacob Haubner to Miguel Hudson. South Callaway scored the next three touchdowns. In the fourth quarter the Thunderbirds cut the lead to 21-12 on a four-yard run by Justin Menard, but the defense could not stop the Bulldogs who scored one more TD making the final score 28-12. In the third quarter South Callaway scored on two North Callaway fumbles.
Page 2 of 2 - Haubner was 11 for 19 in the air with one interception for a total of 133 yards and one TD. For the receivers, Vance Allen caught five passes for 78 yards. Menard led in rushing with 16 carries for 69 yards. Jake Kee led North Callaway in tackles with 14.
BASKETBALL: The Community R-6 junior high basketball girls defeated Wellsville-Middletown 24-5 Tuesday.
Top scorers were Alissa Curtis with 15 points and Danie Jackson with 5.
"The girls played well. They came out aggressive and stayed aggressive the entire game. I'm very proud of the effort all nine put forth in the game," stated R-6 coach Holly Gemes.
R-6 takes to the court again at 6 p.m. Monday in Madison.
