"Bert Ball, secretary of the National Crop Improvement Committee, is in favor of the next state meeting being held in Mexico. The meeting this year was held in Sedalia and Mexico made a bid for the meeting at the time before any other city in the state made a move. The meeting will likely be in this city next summer."

"Mrs. George Maurice Morris of Washington, D.C. was here this weekend to complete plans for the final additions to the Ross Room at the Audrain County Historical Society Museum. Mrs. Morris is the granddaughter of the late Judge and Mrs. J.E. Ross, in whose memory the room has been furnished by Mrs. Morris and other family members. New additions to the room include oil paintings, handsomely framed in 22-carat gold leaf frames. The Victorian paintings are by Charlotte Guffin of Indianapolis, foremost woman artist of her day. The largest painting is encased in a shadow box."

"The $1,000,000 General Obligation Bond resolution and sale was approved unanimously by the Mexico Board of Education on Tuesday night at the Board's regular meeting. The low bid for the bonds was Country Club Bank of Kansas City, who offered an interest rate of 3.77698 percent. Ten bids were received from fourteen different companies for the purchase of the Series 2002 Bonds. Mexico Superintendent Lloyd Little was pleased with the number of bids, and the low interest rates proposed. The Series 2002 Bonds are being issued for a variety of upgrades for McMillan Elementary School. Included in these improvements are the new heat ventilation and air conditioning systems. The restrooms and special service classrooms will also be renovated at McMillan. The bond proceeds will also help replace the roof at Hawthorne Elementary School."
