Charles T. Young, 83, of Centralia, formerly of Mexico, died at 9:25 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 26, 2012, at Pickering Funeral Home with minister Mark White and minister Jim Dalrymple, officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m., with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. A private family committal service with Military Honors will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.
Charlie was born in Molino, Mo. on November 7, 1929, a son of Walter Atley and Lutie Fay (Newbrough) Young. On September 5, 1954, in Mexico, he married Pauline Maupin who survives.
Mr. Young worked as a lift truck driver and other positions for 42 years at National Refractories. In recent years he had worked as a volunteer at Missouri Veterans Home. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 59, and Church of Christ in Centralia. He was a veteran serving in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 until 1954.
In addition to his wife Pauline, survivors include one son, Micheal Young and Trude Mattingly of Devonport, New Zealand; two daughters, Sharon Dollens and Fred, Centralia, and Charlotte Eckley and Dwayne, Springfield; two sisters, Dorothy Talbert, Mexico, and Mary Alice Green, Chicago; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Dalrymple, Illinois, Jon Iman, Colorado, Dallas Dollens, Centralia, Amanda Iman, Colorado, Katherine Butrum, Centralia, Leigha Eckley, Springfield, Chase (Charles) Eckley, Springfield. and 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends including his special dog friend "Toby".
Mr. Young enjoyed bluegrass music and John Deere tractors.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Iman, one sister Bettie Duncan, and an infant brother, Walter Howard Young.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Christian College, Moberly, or to the Diabetes Foundation. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
