When the students in Mexico's elementary schools arrive at school Monday, they will have a new School Resource Officer.
Kevin Patrick, who has been with the Mexico Public Safety Department for a total of eight years has been named the new part-time SRO for the district.
He will oversee the three elementary schools, splitting his time among the three. He will be on hand to assist the school administration in any problems that should be brought to the attention of the MPSD.
There were three candidates for the position and Chief Susan Rockett believes Patrick will do a good job. "We have a very strong tradition from our school resource officers in Mexico and I am confident Patrick will carry on the good work."
Patrick is looking forward to his new position. This is a new aspect in his law enforcement career. He is also looking foward to showing a positive view of police officers to the children.
"I want them to feel safe and possibly be a role model. I want them to see a police officer on a daily basis and make it a positive experience for them."
When he is not in the schools as the SRO, Patrick will be serving as the evidence custodian for MPSD, by taking pictures of crime scenes, gathering evidence and assisting in any investigation being conducted by the department.
Patrick, son of Virginia Fennewald of Laddonia and Dean Patrick of Mexico, attended Mexico schools until fifth grade. He is a 1992 graduate of Community R-6 High School.
Patrick replaces Russell Sing who has been promoted to sargeant and works mainly on the fire side of MPSD.
