Jesse James "Jake" Jacobs, Jr. 86, of Mexico, Missouri passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Golden Living Center – Pin Oaks.
Services will be held on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home.
Jake was born in McBaine, Missouri on April 6, 1926, the son of Jesse James Jacobs and Daisy Dean (Smith) Jacobs. He was the tenth of twelve children. On April 19, 1959 he married Patsy Karney in Fulton, Missouri. She survives at their home in Mexico.
Jake worked in the transportation business a number of years. He drove for Forbis Brothers out of Columbia, Missouri and for Mayflower Trucking out of Jefferson City, Missouri. Upon moving to Mexico in 1970 he worked for Mexico Public Schools from 1970 until his retirement in 1991. He was honored with the Pioneer in Education Award for his dedication and service to the students and patrons of the school district. He served the school district 21 years.
He was interested in sports especially high school wrestling, basketball, track and baseball. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and attending country music shows.
In addition to his wife, Pat, survivors include a son, Jesse Dale Jacobs and Lydia of Columbia, Missouri; a daughter, Donetta Jacobs-Wilson and Kerry of Wildwood, Missouri; a granddaughter, Savanna Wilson; and a sister, Gladys Louise Conner of Boonville, Missouri. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, three sisters and a grandson.
