MMS WRESTLING: Mexico Middle School Mat Dawgs saw competition at the Marceline Quad Tuesday night with Marceline, Brookfield, and Kirksville at the event.
Results for MMS include: Dylan Patton 2-0 with 2 pins; Kellen Ekern 1-1 with 1 win by decision; Brit Wilson 2-0 with 2 wins by decision; Alex Bellamy 0-2 but a close loss in Overtime; Wyatt Turner 2-1 with 2 pins; Vinny Vitale 0-2 but had a close first match; Hale Fuemmuler 0-2 but had a great second match; Cameron Fox 2-0 with 2 pins; Andrew Lummis 0-2 but had a great second match; Terrese Aaron 0-2 but had a close second match; Gabe Deimeke 1-1 with 1 pin.
"It was a very tough night for our boys. They saw some great competition and some good technical wrestlers. We hope to keep working hard and to finish the season out strong," Coach Tony Senor reports.
Next competition for the Middle School Mat Dawgs will be this Saturday at the Troy Tournament.
CENTRALIA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT: The boys first round of basketball competition began Tuesday at the Centralia Tournament with the following results:
Hallsville 70, Boonville 66. Boonville outscored Hallsville by 4 points in each of the last two quarters of regulation to force overtime. Hallsville responded by doubling up Boonville in the OT period.
Brendan Beatty scored 22 points for Hallsville, followed by Ryan Long with 16. For Boonville Gus Kemp scored 16Ps and Damario Walker scored 13.
Salisbury 60, Macon 46. Salisbury had three players in double figures: Zach Wyatt, 16Ps, Austin Francis, 13Ps and Eli Asbury, 12Ps. Leading scorer for Macon was Craig Smith with 13, followed with Trey Kothe with 8Ps.
Sturgeon 74, Centralia 60. Centralia lead 44-42 going into the fourth quarter but Sturgeon poured in 32 fourth quarter points, paced by Spencer Kelly's 16 in the fourth. Kelly was the top scorer in the game with 26 points with teammates Lorenzo Chisholm with 17Ps and Brayden Kelly with 10Ps. For Centralia Denver Horn scored 18 while Zach Etzler scored 11Ps.
Southern Boone 56, North Callaway 44. The North Callaway Thunderbirds lead in the first half of the game Tuesday against Southern Boone, by as many at 8 points. Southern Boone outscored North Callaway 30-15 in the second half to overcome a three-point halftime deficit with the final score 56-44 in favor of Southern Boone. For North Callaway Justin Murphy scored 17 points with three 3-pointers and 7 rebounds.
For Southern Boone, Nick Carlos scored 15 points, Frankie Gresbach, 14, Brice Mueller, 12 and Blake Lemmers, 9 points.
North Callaway plays at 9 p.m. Thursday against Centralia.
PARIS BASKETBALL: Zane Vaughn was the only player in double figures for the Paris Coyotes basketball team Tuesday night against Marion County with the final score 66-37 in favor of Marion County. Vaughn also lead in rebounds with 9, one block and one steal and one assist. Brant Francis scored 8 with 4 RBs, and 2 steals. Britton Frances also scored 8 with one 3-point basket. Slater Stone had 5 RBs, two blocks, one steal and two assists.
Paris: 10, 14, 9, 4
Marion County: 22, 14, 14, 16
COMMUNITY R-6 JV GIRLS: Four players reached double figures for the Community R-6 junior varsity girls basketball team in a 53-11 victory against MSD. Sam Jackson lead the team with 13 points, followed by Karissa Graves, Rebecca Hagan and Courtney Bertels with 10 points each. Hagan also had 8 rebounds and Jackson had 6.
R-6's record is 2-0.
MMA SOCCER: Three Missouri Military Academy cadets have been named to the soccer All Central Region Team. They are all seniors and forwards and include: Jesus Gonzalez, Jose O. Garcia and Patricio Herrera. This is the first time a Colonel has been named to the team since the Coach's Association as founded in 1998.
MMA's coach Capt. Eric Reynolds was named co-coach of the year for Class 1 private schools in the Central Region, tied with Principia's Travis Brantingham.
