    "Lester Miller, of this city, and T. W. Jackson, both students in Westminster College, walked to this city Saturday morning, from the Capitol of the Kingdom in six hours. Prof. Highley and Dr. Atkinson, of the Westminster, made the same trip, but were a little behind the boys. They all made the return trip walking."

    "More than a million dollars has been poured into Audrain County this year in crop control payments to farmers for keeping part of their land idle. Nearly half the money was paid over to the farmers last month, giving the Audrain County economy a strong pre-Christmas spurt and putting into the hands of the individual farmers some ready cash for paying taxes or having a Merry Christmas. The money came from the federal feed grain, wheat stabilization and barley programs. Total payments authorized for Audrain farmers for this year were $1,099,149.47, according to Mrs. Mary Bosler, chief clerk of the Audrain Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service."

    "Bell ringers for the Salvation Army Christmas project in Mexico collected $708.49 last week, nearly double the $423 received the previous week, according to Leonna Jackson, chairman. The goal this year is $2,000...Bishop Dotcy I. Isom Jr. presiding prelate of the third episcopal district of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, received the key to the city from Mayor Pro Tem Leila Inlow at the St. Paul CME Church Friday night. The bishop was in town to preside over the winter council of the Kansas-Missouri Conference, held Friday and Saturday at the local CME church."

    "Members of the Happy Homemakers Club met at the Iron Skillet Restaurant in Kingdom City Dec. 4 for their annual Christmas dinner. After a short business meeting was held Estella Rothermich, president, installed the new officers for 2003. A Christmas gift exchange revealed secret pals for the past year."
