  • EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS: The Mexico Middle School eighth grade basketball team lost in a lopside game Tuesday at Marshall by the score of 26-6. MMS scored only 2 points in the first quarter and the halftime score was Marshall 17, Mexico 4.
    "We were completely out of sync and had a rough night shooting. We will look to try and bounce back Thursday against Troy," stated MMS coach Cindy Allison.
    Leading the way for MMS were Savanna Bradley with 2P/3R, Kronesha Belcher 2P/3R, Sydny Hull 2P.
    Mexico (1-7) will play at 5 p.m. Thursday at home against Troy.
    EIGHTH GRADE BOYS: On Tuesday, the Bulldogs beat Marshall Bueker Middle School 48-36.
    "We played very well as a team from the very beginning of the game to the very end. Everyone contributed in some way and I am proud of all 14 guys," said MMS coach Kyle Louder.
    Top scorers for MMS included: Isaac Troy 18, Chris Campbell 8, Miguel Vega 7, Clay Jeffrey 6, Caleb Robertson 4, Alex Brazil 3, and Clint Smith 2.
    The team plays two more times before Christmas break – Thursday and Monday.
    SEVENTH GRADE GIRLS: The Mexico Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team traveled to Marshall Tuesday and brought home a 37-34 victory.
    "The entire team contributed to this win. There were a lot of great attempts to steal the ball, but I'd love to see more during the next games. The intensity was definitely seen during the third and fourth quarters, so we'll continue to bring that same intensity the entire game," said MMS coach Stephanie Schutte.
    Adria Costley led in scoring with 25 points. Ana Minnick and Elisabeth Gooch both contributed 4 points, along with Kylie Morgan and Mackenzie Davis who scored 2 points.
    SEVENTH GRADE BOYS: The Mexico Middle School Bulldogs played host to the Marshall Owls Tuesday evening and were able to move their record to 6-0 with a 41-28 victory.
    Scores at the quarters were 15-5, 22-10 and 36-13. Cameron Holman recorded 17P, while Quinton Baumgartner 8P/4S, Michael White 8P, Cameron Baumgartner 5P/7R, and Matthew Huffman 3P each contributed in the win.
    "This team continues to impress me with their resiliency and ability to step up and fill their roles every game. Each game there are different guys that step up for us," Coach Brandon Schafer remarked.
    In B team action Ty DeBurns had 4P and Colton Johnson 2P.
    MMS WRESTLING: The Mexico Middle School Mat Dawgs saw competition Tuesday night against MMA and no team points were kept.
    Results for MMS include: Dylan Patton 1-0 with 1 pin; Kellen Ekern 2-0 with 1 tech and 1 pin; Brit Wilson 2-0 with 1 pin and 1 tech; Alex Bellamy 2-0 with 1 pin and 1 tech; Wyatt Turner 2-0 with 2 pins; Hale Fuemmeler 2-0 with 2 pins; Cameron Fox 1-1 with 1 pin; Andrew Lummis 0-1; Vinny Vitale 2-0 with 2 pins; Terrese Aaron 0-1; Gabe Deimeke 1-0 with 1 pin.
    Page 2 of 2 - "We looked pretty good on Tuesday night. Our goal is to get our boys ready for the next level and to focus on sportsmanship. We hope to finish strong with our last tournament," reports Coach Tony Senor.
    The next competition for MMS will be Saturday in the Mexico Middle School Invitational Tournament at 9 a.m.
    BASKETBALL POLL: The MBCA/MOsports basketball poll is selected by a panel of coaches representing each of the 8 districts and each of the five Missouri basketball classes. Mexico holds on to its third-place ranking. Following are the rankings for Class 4:
