MMS SEVENTH GRADE BOYS: The seventh grade basketball Bulldogs brought home another victory Thursday evening, moving their record to 7-0 with a road victory over the Troy Trojans 36-23. After pulling out to an 11-6 lead in the first quarter, the Trojans climbed back into it, down only two at the half 16-14.
The Bulldogs came out with intensity and never relinquished the lead pushing it to 28-16 after the third. Cameron Holman had another productive night scoring 19P, while Michael White 8P, Deion Wayman 6P, Avion Williams 2P and Malik Sheets 1P each scored for the 7th grade Bulldogs.
"After halftime we came out and put the game away with our press and fast break opportunities. This was a great win against a very talented Troy team." Coach Brandon Schafer said.
In the B game Marcus Higbee scored 5P, Colton Johnson 5P, Marquis Smith 2P and Ty DeBurns 2P each scored in the 22-14 loss.
The seventh grade play again Monday in Centralia at 5:30.
SEVENTH GRADE GIRLS: Mexico seventh grade basketball Lady Bulldogs played an active and quick ball game that ultimately did not end up in their favor losing 31-29 over Troy.
"Ana Minnick did an outstanding job defensively, trying to get the ball any moment she could," remarked MMS coach Stephanie Schutte.
Adria Costley scored 17 of our total points, with Mackenzie Davis contributing 6 points and Elisabeth Gooch contributing 5 points. Out of our seven games the Lady Bulldogs have played, this is the fourth game it has come down to the last second play.
"With more experience, we hope to improve our 3-4 season even more," added the coach.
In the "B" quarters, Lesli Key did a great job taking the ball up and down the court. She contributed 4 points to the team's total of 8. Natalie Phillips and Gabrielle Brower made a presence down low in the post positions and as the games continue, the coach hopes to see even more improvement. The final score of the "B quarters" was 12-8 in favor of Troy.
EIGHTH GRADE BOYS: The Mexico eighth grade boys "A" team lost to Troy by a score of 45-30. Leading the way for MMS was Miguel Vega with 13P. Isaac Troy had 8P, Clay Jeffrey, 7P and Chris Campell 2P
The "B" team also lost to Troy in a two-quarter game by a score of 23-5. De'Shon Fountain scored 3P for Mexico while Cameron Evans scored 2.
EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS: The eighth grade girls pushed through their fatigue in the fourth quarter to continue scoring and playing hard with the result of the hard work giving them a 29-22 victory over Troy Thursday night at home.
"I was proud of how all the girls fought for the win and pushed through their fatigue in the fourth quarter to continue scoring and playing hard. Kronesha Belcher played with lots of energy in the game and Sydny Hull hit two big shots and Emily McKenzie hit 2 key free throws in the fourth quarter to give us the momentum and breathing room that we needed," remarked MMS coach Cindy Allison.
Leaders for Mexico were Kronesha Belcher 10P/10R/2S, Sydny Hull 9P/4S, Morgan Bledsoe 4P, Savanna Bradley 3P, Emily McKenzie 3P, Taylor Brown 1P/4R
The team's record is 2-7.
In the two-quarter "B" game Mexico won by one point 11-10.

Leaders for the Lady Bulldogs were Anna Proctor 3P/3R, Kayla Scobee 2P/2R, Savanna Bradley, Amber Shaw, Tamijah Williams 2P each.
MMS had a big comeback in this game during the second quarter after Troy had built a lead. "We picked up the scoring in that quarter and had five different players score and everyone contribute to getting the win," said MMS coach Allison.
The "B" team's record is 2-0.
The next game will be Monday at home against Centralia after the seventh grade game at 5 p.m.
