Roy Cameron Chrismer, 91 of Laddonia, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Francis officiating. Burial will be in Laddonia Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Roy was born Jan. 6, 1921 in St. Louis County, the son of Daniel L. and Mary (Jergensen) Chrismer. On April 11, 1942, he married Erma Darline Slavens. After 64 years with the love of his life, Darline went to her heavenly home on Dec. 12, 2006.
Mr. Chrismer worked at Walsh Refractory's in Farber until retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Laddonia Baptist Church and was a Deacon there for many years.
Roy and Darline lived on a farm south of Laddonia, where the kids loved to go cut down trees for a wiener roast, see who could catch the biggest fish in the pond or who would get the first deer. He loved assisting Grandma make quilts for the family, playing cards, checkers and dominoes.
Everyone called him Grandpa and he was known for his teasing and orneriness. Robyn recalls one summer on a vacation, Grandpa and Bob got her between them in the car and picked on her the entire trip. After Grandma passed, Nicki took on the challenge of watching over Dad and Grandpa at Pizza Hut every Thursday for lunch.
He loved going to Vandalia the first Friday of the month for the all you can eat fish fry and was counting on going Jan. 4th for his 92nd birthday celebration with all the kids.
Survivors include two sons, a daughter, and their spouses, Robert & Vera Chrismer of Green Ridge, MO, Mary Ann & Leo Schwartze of Hermann, MO, and William Chrismer of Mexico. He is also survived by six grandchildren and spouses, Kathy and Larry Loeffler of Olathe, KS, Carolyn Schwartze of Springfield, MO, Kirstie and Jason Vittone of Mexico, Leroy and Cheryl Schwartze of Hermann, Robyn and Thane Bailey of Winfield, KS, and Nicki Chrismer of Mexico; seven great-grandchildren, Erin Loeffler, Katelyn Loeffler, A.J. Vittone, Dominick Vittone, Coulter Schwartze, Lexie Bailey, and Alexis Bailey; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Darline, he was preceded in death by a daughter Linda Sue on Dec. 25, 1948, grandson Robert Wayne Chrismer on Jan. 17, 2000 and grandson Danny Chrismer on Dec. 25, 2001.
