On recommended transportation improvements in southeastern Callaway County
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Planners and engineers have been evaluating possible transportation improvements in southeastern Callaway County and are now seeking the community's feedback at a public hearing open house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on January 15, 2013 at the Callaway County Public Library, 710 Court Street, Fulton, Mo. Additionally, meeting information and exhibits will be available online starting January 16 at www.modot.org/central.
Work on the Callaway County Connector Environmental Assessment (EA) has been ongoing, and at this point, public input is needed on the document, which includes recommendations to construct a new roadway starting at Route 54 just south of Fulton and extending to the southeast, improvements to portions of County Roads AD and 428, construction of a new crossing of the Auxvasse Creek, and improvements to portions of State Highway O.
"We are excited about sharing our ideas to improve transportation between U.S. 54 and southeastern Callaway County," said Michael Herleth, project manager, Burns and McDonnell Engineers. Herleth noted that the ideas are based on technical analyses, as well as public input received to date.
The Callaway County Connector EA examines the need and recommends improvements to the transportation system in southeastern Callaway County. It also details the potential impacts of those improvements on homes, businesses, farms, historic sites, communities and nature, as well as costs and feasibility. The study is being led by Burns and McDonnell Engineers in collaboration with Ameren Missouri, the Missouri Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
Copies of the EA are available online at www.modot.org/central, the Callaway County Courthouse, Fulton City Hall, the Callaway County library, MoDOT's Central District Office, 1511 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, Mo., and at the MoDOT Fulton Maintenance Facility, located at 4975 County Road 304 in Fulton, Mo. Comments may be submitted in writing to the Central District office, verbally or in writing at the hearing, or by e-mail via the link on the MoDOT website. Comments need to be submitted by January 25, 2013.
