Mexico Bulldogs matmen brought home two victories in dual meets on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated Christina Brothers 36-33 and beat Lee's Summit 37-30.

MMS EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS: Mexico eighth grade participated in the Moberly Tournament Jan. 4 and 5 and came home with second place.
On Friday Mexico topped Moberly 32-14. MMS led after the first quarter 4-0 and going into the locker room they were ahead 16-0. Moberly did not score until the third quarter with 7 points.
Leading scorers for MMS were: Sydny Hull 12P/5R, Morgan Bledsoe 8P, Savanna Bradley 4P/4R, MaKenzie Resa 4P, Kronesha Belcher 2P/4R, Amber Shaw 2P.
In the championship game on Saturday MMS was defeated by Hannibal 42-27. Saturda.
The halftime score was Hannibal 24, Mexico 13.
Leading scorers for MMS included: Sydny Hull 10P/3R/2S, Morgan Bledsoe 8P/2S, Taylor Brown 4P, MaKenzie Resa 3P, Kronesha Belcher 2P/3R.
"Overall I thought we played well, especially after coming off a long break. In the Moberly game we really picked up the defensive intensity in the second quarter and outscored them 12-0. In the championship game Hannibal is a very good team and we knew that their quickness would be a challenge. Even though we didn't win the game, we continued to make runs at them and didn't give up," stated MMS coach Cindy Allison.
MMS (3-9) play again at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Moberly.
NORTH CALLAWAY GIRLS: The Ladybirds began its basketball season in 2013 at home Thursday night by knocking off the No. 2 ranked Hermann Lady Bearcats 48-43. Before Thursday night, the Lady Bearcats had lost only one game to Sullivan, a 4 Class team.
With less than 3 1/2 minutes left in the game, the Ladybirds were winning 40-30 when Hermann went on a 7-point run hitting 3 of their five 3-pointers and cutting the lead to 3. Elaine Brinker put the game away for North Callaway hitting 4 of 5 attempts at the free throw line. She also led the team in assists with 5 and 4 steals. Jaida Gray was the leading scorer for North Callaway with 20 points. Maddie Sorrell scored 14 points and led the team in rebounds with 10. Kelsey Coil scored 2 points, but brought down 7 defensive rebounds, mostly in the fourth quarter.
"It was a very good win against a very good team. The girls played their best game of the year with the exception of the short time in the fourth quarter," stated North Callaway coach Jack Peace.
The Ladybirds, 10-1 on the season, play again Tuesday in the South Callaway Tournament.
HERMANN: 10-6-14-13
NORTH CALLAWAY: 12-8-12-16
JV: The junior varsity team lost 37-32 to the Hermann JV team. North Callaway was leading going into the fourth quarter. Kasey Huddleston scored 9 points for North Callaway.
The JV team (1-7) play at home Tuesday against Centralia.
COMMUNITY R-6 GIRLS: The Lady Trojans coach Bob Curtis says he understands why Salisbury is the No. 1 seed in the Madison Tournament and at the same time has received votes for state rankings in Class 2. "They are well coached and the best defensvie team we have played this season," said the coach. He added it is tough playing a good Salisbury team the next night after a war with a very good Cairo team which the Lady Trojans defeated. The final score of Thursday's game was 45-15 in favor of Salisbury.
For Community R-6 Emmalee McCaskey had a total of 7 points while Paige Harris scored 5. Paige Curtis, Sam Jackson and Amelia Knipfel added 1 point each.
COMMUNITY R-6: 3-2-3-7
SALISBURY: 8-17-12-8
The Lady Trojans are 7-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
COMMUNITY R-6 BOYS: Salisbury kept Community R-6 scoreless in the second quarter and under double digits in the third to beat the Trojans 57-34 in the Madison Tournament. Clay Thebeau was top scorer for R-6 with 10, Justin Durham scored 6 while Lane Thebeau and Kyle Curtis added 4 points each. Conner Brooks scored 4, Justin Wilson 3, and Keith Caldwell put in two.
Durham, Wilson and Lane Thebeau each put in a 3-pointer. Wilson also had 4 steals.
The Trojans are 6-2 for the season.
