Henry "Ron" Barnes, 80 of Mexico, died at 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at Golden Living / Pin Oaks Nursing Center in Mexico.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico with Pastor Michael Gallagher officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m. with Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Vandalia.
Mr. Barnes was born March 19, 1932, in rural Audrain County, a son of Henry R. and Hazel (Jerman) Barnes. On September 15, 1954, in Brighton, Colo. he married Norma Jean Jahn. Mrs. Barnes survives.
Henry was a veteran serving during the Korean War in the Army. He previously worked at the MFA Exchange.
Mr. Barnes was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Hebron Lodge #354 for 50 years, Scottish Rite, in Columbia, Moolah Shire-Little Dixie Shrine, and the American Legion.
In addition to his wife, Norma, survivors include two sons, Randall Barnes and his wife Cindy, Centralia, Wayde Barnes and wife Linda, Mexico; one daughter, Joy Carpenter and husband George, Rogers, Ark; four brothers, Ramon Barnes, Vandalia, Dwaine Barnes and wife Jean, Farber, Danny Barnes and wife Anne, Vandalia, and Dennis Barnes and wife Virginia, Vandalia; one sister, Barbara Voss and husband Dan, Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Rhonda Barnes; one sister, Ruth Nell Heaton; and one infant sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
