The Mexico High School Bulldog matmen came out Wednesday night ready to wrestle in a big conference match against Hannibal (Class 3) with the final score 50-30 in favor of Mexico.
"Last night freshman David Rendon filled in for Hunter Smith and really got us off to a good start," said MHS coach Gayle Adams. Rendon was losing going into the third period, but came away with a big pin.
Senior and three time state-qualifier, Jake Vitale, remains undefeated on the season with a 9-0 decision over Colby Collings, the fifth-ranked wrestler in Class 3. Vitale placed fifth in state as a freshman and junior and placed second as a sophomore.
Payton Turner also had a huge win with a 12-4 decision over Brant Dooley, the seventh-ranked wrestler in Class 3.
The Bulldogs, 10-4 in dual matches and 2-1 in conference, travel to St. Charles this weekend for a tournament, while the junior varsity travels to Moberly on Saturday. Next week Mexico will be at home on Tuesday and will travel to Fulton on Thursday.
