  • BASKETBALL: The Mexico High School Lady Bulldogs won the championship game of the Warrior Winter Shootout in Warrenton on Friday against Duchesne with a buzzer-winning basket. The final was 49-47 in favor of Mexico.
"It was an exciting ballgame from beginning to end. I was pleased with the girls' effort down the stretch. We fought through foul trouble late," stated MHS coach Ed Costley.
Duchesne took possession with a minute left and the Lady Bulldogs were able to get a stop and get the ball back with 20 seconds left and the Bulldogs wanted the final shot. Brooke Costley hit a runner down the lane at the buzzer to get the win. Alison Mudd and Karen Baker had good shooting in the first half against Duchesne's zone. Anne Baker was by far the key to the game. Costley switched her to defend the post and it changed the game. "She didn't score but she was the difference (in the game)," said Costley. He added the girls continue to grow every night out.
Three Mexico players, Anne Baker, Alison Mudd and Brooke Costley made the All-Tournament Team.
The Lady Dawgs are 8-5 overall for the season.
Team tournament records include 25 3-pointers made in tournament, held by Mexico 2011 (18).
