Bail bondsmen fire weapon at fugitive

The sheriff's office responded to Oakcrest Trailer Court, south of Mexico along Highway 54 on Friday to investigate a report of gunshots.
During the course of the investigation it was learned the three bail bond agents from of Audrain County went to Oakcrest Trailer Court around noon to arrest a fugitive on warrants from Callaway and Cooper Counties for stealing, tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and failure to appear in court on the original charge of failure to register as a sex offender.
From the initial investigation the sheriff's office learned that the bailbondsmen spotted the fugitive and fired a weapon at him. The fugitive fearing that he would be shot fled away in a vehicle. The bail bondsmen chased after the fugitive, chasing him into the city limits of Mexico, near the intersection of Green Boulevard and East Liberty Streets. The fugitive fled on foot, from his vehicle, and the bail bondsmen chased him into the restroom of a local business and began beating the fugitive. The fugitive was taken to Audrain Medical Center where he was treated and released to the custody of the Sheriff's Office (he was not shot). The fugitive was identified as John Henry Holsman, 34, of Fulton. Holsman's bond is set at $42,500.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted in the investigation by the East Central Drug Task and the Mexico Public Safety Department.
Persons arrested for criminal offenses are merely accused, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
