"A report of thefts in the locker rooms at Mexico High School was made to the Mexico school board last night at its regular session. Board member William B. Nowell brought up the subject of the thefts and proposed the board go into executive session. The board agreed to do so but later in discussion Mr. Nowell said he really couldn't see any need for secrecy and the meeting was thrown open again. He reported there have been five thefts of money from clothing left in the locker rooms during physical education classes, one from the girls' locker room and four from the boys. Board members said measures should be taken to put a stop to the stealing. President Carl Burchfield suggested that the teachers see that everyone is out of the rooms and then lock them during gym classes. Supt. Buford Thomas said he and Asst. Supt. Joe Hodgin will investigate and with Principal William Lowry and the coaches put into effect measures to stop stealing."
