"Hugh Connelly, who for 24 years has been custodian of the North Central Public School, can boast of what is probably the best record for church attendance in this city. Mr. Donnelly for 24 years has never missed an early Mass at St. Brendan's Church on Sunday. Although Mr. Donnelly says little of his steady attendance, the fact has leaked out."

"Mrs. Josie Morrison, an elderly widow, was admitted to Audrain Hospital late this morning for treatment of burns suffered in a fire at her home at 604 N. Jeffries. She was attempting to thaw frozen water pipes in the bathroom when the wall caught fire. A neighbor, Mrs. Robert E. Spradlin, 610 N. Jeffries, saw smoke coming from the house, ran over and attempted to find Mrs. Morrison. She heard her calling but the smoke was so dense by that time she could not find her. Mrs. Spradlin called her husband and he found Mrs. Morrison lying on the floor and carried her out of the house. Mrs. Spradlin suffered a burn on her forehead in the rescue attempt."
