  • Frances Ann Parrish, 88 of Vandalia, passed away unexpectedly at 2 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Mo.
    Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday, Jan 22, at the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia, Mo. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia with Rev. Bob Balwanz officiating. Music will be provided by Mike Ray, pianist. Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
    Pallbearers include Mike Ray, Paul Ray, Art Wiser, Paul Galloway, Frank Wallace and Jimmy Robinson. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Werner and Jerry Zimmer.
    Frances Ann was a graduate of Vandalia High School with the class of 1940. She attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, majoring in history and French and graduated with an AB degree in 1944. She then returned to Vandalia to help care for her father in the late days of World War II. Following his death, she and her sister attended Stanford University in California until her sister's marriage there.
    After secretarial training in Chicago, she returned to Bryn Mawr College in 1946 to begin a master's program involving research in history at Washington, D.C. With health problems, she returned to Missouri, lived and worked in Columbia, Mo. until an auto accident required home care in Vandalia. After her mother's death in 1974, Vandalia became her permanent residence and she lived in the more than century old home on West State Street. Frances Ann maintained memberships in local chapters of D.A.R. and P.E.O. and was a life member of the American Association of University Women and the State Historical Society of Missouri. She enjoyed the farm planning of her family's 320 acre farm and the continuance of family history in Vandalia through the Vandalia Area Historical Society.
    Frances Ann was born Feb. 25, 1924 in St. Louis, the daughter of Dr. John Conley and Mary Alice (Hanna) Parrish.
    Survivors include one niece, Mary Christine Erickson of Rocklin, Calif.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Ellen Erickson.
    Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Vandalia or to the donor's choice.
