Autopsy ordered to determine cause of death
VANDALIA, Mo. – At 10:38 a.m. today, offender Amy Smith, 36, confined at Women's Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center, was pronounced dead at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico. WERDCC officials said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Smith was serving a seven-year sentence for one count of possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less marijuana (ITC) from Stoddard County and one count of possession of controlled substance except 35 grams or less marijuana (ITC) from Butler County. She was received in the Missouri Department of Corrections on Dec. 14, 2012.
