  • COMMUNITY R-6 GIRLS: The Community R-6 game against Westran on Tuesday was a defensive struggle as both teams did an excellent job on the defensive end of the floor, said R-6 coach Bob Curtis. Their man-to-man was smothering and the Lady Trojans did not adjust until the second quarter when they started to get some back cuts and penetration to alleviate the ball pressure they were applying. "The key for us was a good second quarter after some adjustments and a great fourth quarter. In those two frames we outscored them 25-8," said the R-6 coach. R-6 was the winner 34-21.
The Lady Trojans are nursing some injuries so they are very much in survival mode until they get healthy. The coach said the ankle sprains and minor knee injuries his team has suffered over the last two weeks will only get better as they move toward district time. "We have had three starters over the course of the last two weeks report injuries, however they are trying to play through it, which is a credit to their toughness," stated Curtis.
Amelia Knipfel had a great game scoring a game high 10 points and knocking in the Lady Trojans only three of the night. Paige Curtis scored 7 points and Danielle Brooks added 5.
The Lady Trojans play for consolation at 6 p.m. today in the tournament.
