BASKETBALL: The Mexico High School Lady Bulldogs hosted the Boonville Lady Pirates in basketball action Thursday night. Mexico won 68-57.
"A 13-0 run to end the third quarter helped us overcome a double digit deficit. At times we were too aggressive on defense and not staying disciplined in our team positioning, allowing a number of easy baskets for Boonville," stated Coach Ed Costley. "Karen Baker's hot hand hitting 3 threes in the second kept us close. Six threes in the second half helped us to take control of the game. I am proud of how these girls dug in and found a way together, hitting the hot hand and staying true to their team roles."
Brooke Costley led the Mexico team in scoring with 19 points. She also recorded one rebound and 4 steals. Karen Baker scored 15 points, had 2 rebounds and 1 steal, Allison Mudd scored 10 points, Anne Baker 9P with 7 rebounds and 6 steals, Kelli Ingrum had 6P and 3R, Remi Greenwell scored 5P with 1R, Cassie Schmidt had 1P and 1R.
Morgan Edwards was high scorer for Boonville with 23 points, followed by Olivia Imhoff with 10.

WRESTLING: Mexico High School Bulldogs hosted Hickman High School Kewpies for a dual wrestling event Thursday night, finishing their home season. Mexico defeated the Kewpies 67-6.
It was a great night of wrestling with a good crowd with a lot of energy for senior night.
Jake Vitale remains undefeated with a record 37-0.
"Jake went out with bang last night. It was his last match in Gooch Gym," Coach Gayle Adams said.
Vitale wrestled Alex Shea from Hickman. Shea is ranked 4th in class 4 Vitale is ranked 1st class 2. After the 1st period the score was 2-2. Vitale got a reversal late in the period to tie it up. Vitale chose down in the 2nd and scored another reversal to go up 4-2 and he rode Shea out. The start of the 3rd period Shea chose neutral and Vitale sealed the deal with a 3rd period takedown to win the match 6-2. "It was great a match between two kids who have wrestled against each other many years. Vitale is on a mission this year – his sites are set on the state tile in February. Senior Dalton Wilson was my other senior. He is healing from injury working on trying to get back for districts. The guys are working hard to improve for districts and state," the coach said. "We are trying to peek at the right time, to get hot and roll into districts ready to place in the top 4 so they can advance to the state tournament. I have a few guys out right now with illness and a few bumps we're trying to heal up before districts. We head to Odessa Saturday for a varsity tournament. Thursday we head to Brookfield to wrestle Brookfield ranked 1st in class 1. And we wrestle Cameron and they are ranked in the top 10 in class 2 just like us. These are great tune-ups for the end of the year," Coach Adams said.
