  • Mexico High School Bulldogs explode on Fulton Hornets

  • The Mexico Bulldogs exploded on the Fulton Hornets 90-41 in an NCMC conference game Tuesday night at Fulton.
    The Mexico Bulldogs had an offensive explosion in the first quarter outscoring Fulton Hornets 25-4. The Bulldogs continued to dominate the second quarter as they scored 41 points in the second quarter. Jake Willer had a career high 36 points in the first half with 10 3 point field goals. Jon Anderson followed with a pulverizing dunk in the second quarter over two Fulton defenders. This allowed the Bulldogs to go on a 41-15 run in the second quarter and led at the half 66-19. The Bulldogs continued to defend in the second half outscoring Fulton in both quarters and going on to post their 15th victory of the season 90-41. The win gives the Bulldogs a perfect 6-0 mark in the NCMC standings.
    Coach Brennan Scanlon was pleased with the defensive pressure the Bulldogs exhibited and the offensive execution in the half court and transition was great. "Jake Willer was in an amazing shooting zone in the first half and Jon Anderson sent the message with the second quarter dunk," said the MHS coach. The team is really playing well together as Cole Jaramillo hit 3 triples in the first half also. Jake Anderson had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Skylar Harrington contributed 6 points and 4 assists. "We are focusing on improving on the defensive end and fine tuning our offensive execution as this season unfolds into February," added the coach.
    Jake Willer led all scorers with 38 points, Jon Anderson had 17, Jake Anderson 10, Cole Jaramillo 9, and Skylar Harrington 6.
    The Bulldogs are back home on Friday night for Winterwarming as they host the Marshall Owls in another NCMC contest.
    The varsity girls will play on the Gary Filbert Court at 6 p.m. while the JV boys play at 6 p.m. in Gooch gym. Winterwarming activities will take place between games on the Gary Filbert Court, followed by varsity boys. The JV girls will play in Gooch gym after the activities. The CTA will be hosting the Turkey Turnover dinner in the Mexico High School Cafeteria from 5-7:30 p.m.

    JUNIOR VARSITY: The junior varsity Bulldogs won 54-48 against the Fulton Hornets Tuesday in Fulton.
    "We made some mistakes throughout the course of the game. We try to pride ourselves on our defense though and in the fourth quarter our defensive intensity won us the game," stated MHS coach Tyler Hudson.
    Page 2 of 2 - Top scorers for Mexico were: James Norton 16 points, Kamden Ekern, 11, Tyler Bracht, 8, Malik Holman, 7, D'Milo Nunnelly and Markail Williams, 6 points each.
    The Bulldogs are 6-1 overall and 5-1 in conference.
    Mexico will host a JV tournament beginning today (weather permitting). Boonville and Bowling Green play at 6 p.m.; and the Bulldogs play the North Callaway Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m.
