NORTH CALLAWAY BOYS: The Thunderbirds and the Linn Wildcats played in the first round of the Southern Boone Tournament Tuesday night with the No. 4 seed Thunderbirds defeating the No. 5 seed Wildcats. Going into the game, the two teams had the same record of 11-7. The final was 54-42 in favor of the Thunderbirds.
"We did a good job at both ends. We had 30 rebounds and 10 turnovers to their 17 turnovers, which was the difference in the game," stated NorCal Coach Tim Turlington.
Zach Eads led the way for NorCal with 20 points, 14 coming in the first half. He also had 6Rs. Jacob Haubner scored 11 points and led the team with 6 assists. Justin Murphy scored 10 points. Meguel Hudson led in rebounds with 7.
For Linn Jesse Wiggins scored 17 points.
The Thunderbirds play at 6 p.m. today against the state-ranked and No. 1 seed in the tournament Fatima.
The North Callaway freshmen and junior varsity girls played New Haven. The freshmen lost 28-18. Taylor Wiseman was top scorer with 6 points. The JV also lost 33-13. Brittany Vaughn scored 6 points for North Callaway.
COMMUNITY R-6 GIRLS: On Tuesday night the Lady Trojans and the Wellsville Lady Tigers got together for the first ever Pink Out Game at Community R-6. The proceeds of the event go to the Mid Missouri Affiliate of Komen for the Cure. The Lady Trojans had three players in double figures, Paige Curtis scored 17 points and brought down 8 rebounds; Emmalee McCoskey scored 13 points and had 6 rebounds. Amelia Knipfel scored 10 points and had 3 steals. The second quarter was the key for the Lady Trojans as they tallied 21 in the frame and Knipfel connected on a pair of three's in that quarter. R-6 won 53-24.
"It was a fun event. We were glad to host the event with our neighboring school Wellsville who was very supportive of the cause as well as our home town fans," stated R-6 Coach Bob Curtis.
For the Lady Tigers Jordan Kellogg scored 9 points, Casey Johnson and Jennifer Ray scored 4 points each.
