Pearl Motor Company, a Mexico car dealership since 1916, is relocating to 3100 S. Clark Street, next to Dairy Queen. Owner George Huffman says the move will allow the dealership to be more efficient and have more room.
"We are one of the last 'downtown' dealerships," he said. "Change comes hard, but it is the right thing to do for the long term."
The three plus-acre location, which is currently in the process of being prepared for construction, is tentatively scheduled to open in late summer. There will be a metal building with block halfway, and metal panels all around. The front of the building will be aluminum composite with the Chevrolet "Blue Arch."
"General Motors wants dealerships to invest in their buildings and have a common look," Huffman said. "We agreed, but decided money would be better spent on a new facility."
Huffman considered several sites, but chose the land in southern Mexico. "The area is south, but not too far out," he said. "A lot of growth is in that area, and we wanted to be close to town since that is what we have been used to."
Pearl Motor Company will have the same employees and services. Huffman said he appreciates the support from Mexico residents."
Mexico is a great community that our company loves to support," he said. "That is only possible because of the loyal support we receive in turn from the community. People around here truly understand the importance of buying from local businesses."
