  • Juvenile taken into custody admits to making report

  • On Monday, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Mexico Department of Public Safety was called to Mexico Middle School regarding a bomb threat. The school was evacuated and subsequently searched. Nothing was found and the staff was allowed to return by 4:15 p.m.
    Today, through a cooperative effort by Mexico Department of Public Safety, Mexico Public Schools and Audrain County Juvenile Office, a suspect was developed and subsequently interviewed. The suspect, a juvenile, admitted to making the report. There was never a bomb or any intent on causing harm. The juvenile was taken into custody by the Audrain County Juvenile Office.
    Making a false bomb report is more than a simple inconvenience. It is a serious threat to safety that will always be handled thoroughly and professionally by the schools and Public Safety.
    Making a false bomb report is a class D felony. Mexico Department of Public Safety would like to remind residents that Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this and any other incident.
